The Lucky Third

Attending college is very exciting for new students with the hope of starting their career within 4 years. According to recent studies this has become a challenging expectation as fewer students are completing the required coursework within the traditional 4 year time frame. It is arguable that the data used to compile these statistics could be the result of inaccurate reporting of the full-time verses part-time statuses at campuses.

In my opinion, the reason college student don’t graduate within the suggested 4 years is because you have more students with diverse lives. Most college students not only have educational goals to accomplish but also have families and work life. For example, not all freshmen students entering college are coming directly from high school. More people are taking time to find a direction for their life. Once they come to the determination of getting a degree, they must also take non-traditional approach to complete coursework.

I personally identify with the work and family life balance, as I am a single mother who works full-time while attending college. Being that I have younger children I face a lot of challenges. I am hopeful to achieve my degree within the traditional time; I also have additional responsibilities that could potentially alter the suggested 4 year time.

Alternatively, some students have to juggle making ends meet while working towards the achievement of a degree. This alone is a challenge for students as they have to make a critical choice between their educational studies and livelihood. Under my viewpoint and supporting facts, we are able to conclude that one-third of college students are completing coursework at extended times. Allegedly, several schools fail to appropriately update freshman who transferred and those that entered under part-time in their data. Failure to accurately summit updates has questioned on credibility of graduation rates.

I WILL BE ONE OF THE THIRD TO GRADUATE!!
