Thomas Edison: The Light Bulb

Image
Growing up in school people were taught that Thomas Edison invented the light bulb. Obviously, after learning today, Edison was not the inventor of the light bulb, which is very shocking. After digging a little in research, he used the knowledge of previous researchers and inventors to make the first commercialized light bulb and gained credibility for inventing the light bulb. In my opinion, using other people knowledge and hardworking researcher does not define Edison as the creator of the light bulb. Admittedly, there were about 20 inventors from across the world that had drafted various patents on inventing the light bulb (Ripleys).  So basically, other inventors were using previous inventors’ knowledge to improve the light bulb. For example, “Henry Woodward and Matthew Evan, successfully produced and patented an electric filament lamp before Edison had seriously turned his mind to electric lighting.” (Canadian Inventions-The Light Bulb). Unfortunately, due to the fact tha

Admitting, running has a strong claim to the world as the first sport established. “The 5 Oldest Sports in the World.” Indeed, running has always been a universal human expression and will always be. “The 5 Oldest Sport in the World.” I’m aware that running was mention back in 15,300 years ago. Although it was mention centuries, but what historical background can you find on running. After researching a little, I truly believe that wrestling is the oldest sport. However, what many people are not aware of is that wrestling is really the oldest sport. Unfortunately, wrestling is way much different now than is was back in 15,300 years ago. Comparing wrestling from centuries ago to what we call “wrestling” today has changed tremendously. Wrestling establishment had to be som

Race: George Edwin Taylor

George Edwin Taylor: The Son  of s Slave George Edwin Taylor was an incredible man. Despite being one of a dozen children of a slave, he didn’t allow that title to determine his future. After reading his story, I find myself relating to this on so many levels. Being, the oldest of four children and growing up in single parent home having little to nothing was very devastating. Raised on government assistants and being forced to work at the age of 16 years old was unbelievable.  What I can say, is just because my childhood was not peaches and cream, I didn’t let what I experience to predict who I would become in the now. The only difference between me and Taylor I had a roof over my head, and he only had dry good boxes. Regardless of, Taylor being register as the son of a slave, he didn’t let that interfere with him accomplishing his goals.  After Taylor is mother passed, he decided that it was time for change. He could not just sit around moping and feeling depressed  becaus

The Lucky Third

Photo by  Brett Jordan Attending college is very exciting for new students with the hope of starting their career within 4 years. According to recent studies this has become a challenging expectation as fewer students are completing the required coursework within the traditional 4 year time frame. It is arguable that the data used to compile these statistics could be the result of inaccurate reporting of the full-time verses part-time statuses at campuses. In my opinion, the reason college student don’t graduate within the suggested 4 years is because you have more students with diverse lives. Most college students not only have educational goals to accomplish but also have families and work life. For example, not all freshmen students entering college are coming directly from high school. More people are taking time to find a direction for their life. Once they come to the determination of getting a degree, they must also take non-traditional approach to complete coursework
